A Little Irish Cookbook
Published in Hardcover by Chronicle Books (October, 1986)
Authors: John Murphy and Karen Bailey
Average review score:

Great Value for the Money
I recently picked up this book at an Irish import shop to add to my collection of Celtic cookbooks. The compact format makes it easy to use, and the recipes are delicious. If you are looking for just a few recipes to use on St. Patrick's Day, and don't want a large format book, than this is the one for you. Clear directions and simple ingredients make it a winner. (Other Irish cookbooks I recommend for those willing to spend a little more money are The Irish Heritage Cookbook, Classic Irish Recipes, and Celtic Folklore Cooking -- which provides some ancient history behind the recipes.) Happy St. Patrick's Day, everyone!!!!

Wonderful compilation of basics & showy dishes
I LOVE this book! I refer to it several times each year. Great simple recipes plus the traditional St. Patty's Day meal of Corned Beef, etc. Includes personal memories of the author about when dishes were served as well as any regional variations.

A Very Good Book!
I think this was a really good book and I know that a lot of other kids would like it too! I really liked the part where the kids went into the Hauntley's house and saw eye balls and other neat stuff!

A FUNNY Book!

Mrs. Jeepers' Batty Vacation (Adventures of the Bailey School Kids Super Special, 2)
Published in Paperback by Scholastic (July, 1997)

I loved Mrs. Jeppers batty vacation!!!
I liked the book because it was a hair raising story. It was the best book I have read out of the super specials. I liked when the kids were on the plane to Transylvania because the kids thought Mrs. Jeppers was a vampire and she was going to suck their blood until they were nothing but skin and bones. I also liked when they were in Transylvainia and they saw a secret passage that went to Melody and Liza's room. Melody and Liza started hitting Eddie and Howie on the head with pillows. That was funny I liked the book alot!!!

This was my favorite Bailey School book so far.
My name is Leigh and I liked the part when they met Uncle Boris, and Mrs. Jeepers said, "The only time when you have to beware of Uncle Boris is when he's hungry." And they all got scared because they thought he was going to bite them on the neck.

New York State Parks: A Complete Outdoor Recreation Guide
Published in Paperback by Glovebox Guidebooks of Amer (September, 1997)
Authors: Bill Bailey, William L. Bailey, and Bernadette Castro
Average review score:

I was pleased with content and layout.
New York State Parks does a great job of providing detailed information about individual campsites in various regions of NYS. I especially liked the detailed description of facilities and attractions nad their proximity to the campsite.

The description of individual cabins and here settings were of particular interest to me. As a new camper, I found this book very user friendly.

Very Detailed; Excellent Layout
Before visiting New York to camp, hike, fish, boat, bike, or enjoy wildlife in one of their many state parks, pick up a copy of Bill Bailey's very detailed New York State Parks.

I am a very avid camper and hiker, and I travel all about New England, New York, PA, and VA to camp. Before doing this howerever, I always consult Bailey's book (if he has one for that state) to find the park with the shadiest and most private campsite and the steepest trails. His detail about the individual campsites are very valuable to me. He also includes detailed descriptions about the park trails, but he does a better job about that in most of his other books. I also find his maps and the charts at the end of each region very helpful.

The only real downfalls in my opinion is that his photographs arent very good, and he dosent go into detail about every park in the NYS park system, but oh well. The information he provides I find to be very valuable. Buy this book; I guarntee you'll find a park that suits you!

Packaging Law Europe (Ashgate Studies in Environmental Policy and Practice)
Published in Hardcover by Ashgate Publishing Company (June, 1999)
Author: Patricia M. Bailey
Average review score:

The definitive work on this topic.
This book is clearly written and logically organized. It contains much good information with insightful commentary. Professor Bailey's book is a must-read for anyone interested in environmental issues, not only in Europe, but anywhere.

Top notch work by a highly-qualified professional
This magisterial work certainly exceeds all expectations - a highly-qualified Fulbright scholar, Ms. Bailey has been a long-time European resident, and has a sensitive, reader-based approach to a highly sensitive topic. Two thumbs up.

Patanjali's Meditation Yoga
Published in Paperback by Simon & Schuster Australia (October, 1998)
Author: Vyn Bailey
Average review score:

In-depth translation by the reader...
I have read several translations of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras and each has their distinctive commentaries. Vyn Bailey's gift is not so much the actual translation and commentary, but that he provided each Sanskrit word with the various ways it can be translated and then highlights which translation that he used. This allows the reader with meditation experience to participate in the translation process and experience nuances that are missed in the "actual" translation. Translations into English often are "smoothed" to fit our syntax and concepts and some subtle meanings are lost. I recommend this book less for the translation and commentary than for the Sanskrit translations for each word - a wonderful gift for people who do not know Sanskrit.

Primer on meditation
I have read several interpretations of Patanjali's Yoga Sutra. After a while this one became the only one I referred to and I sold the other books. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a lucid and unbiased explanation of this key text.

Vyn Bailey is a christian priest who studied meditation and advocates meditation for people in any religion. The book therefore deals only with the philosophy and practise of meditation. As such it confines itself to the subset of the aphorisms that deal with meditation, and excludes those that deal with religion. Believe me, this is not a weakness of the book. If you want a primer on meditation, this is it. I believe many other interpretations give too much detail on too many irrelevancies. If you want to learn sankhya philosophy, ayurveda, or about vedanta, Patanjali is not the place to learn it, but to learn meditation, i.e. through experience not description, there is no better source of help. Bailey's version is short but I believe people will learn more than from a cluttered text.

Each sutra is given two pages, the sanskrit is provided both in devanagiri and english with an explanation of each root word and the translation given. Then a very clear explanation of what Patanjali was saying. It is obvious that Bailey has a deep undersanding that comes from experience of Yoga and he conveys it in a charming manner.

One criticism from the viewpoint of persons who can read sanskrit is that the original script is handwritten in something like a child's not too confident handwriting rather than being printed, but it is not unreadable either. Probably this is Bailey's handwriting. He writes that he started learning it around the age of 70 to read Patanjali in the original, which I thought was pretty amazing.

Shape Up or Ship Out, Beetle Bailey
Published in Paperback by Ace Books (January, 1985)
Author: Mort Walker

The Beetle has landed!
This is another fine collection of Beetle Bailey strips that is sure to please any fan.

REPORTING FOR DUTY, SARGE!
This collection is CALCULATED to delight all Beetle Bailey afficionados. The eclectic bunch of funny people in this Army setting is sure to leave many people laughing. The comic is not so much about the army, per se, but about a group of funny people who just happen to BE in the army. Pvt. Beetle Bailey should be promoted to Private First Class and the Sarge should be promoted to Sergeant Major! It's all Sarge can do trying to keep a hilariously unruly motley crew in line.

Sarge has more on the ball than the lovable, inept Gen. Half-Track of the wandering eyes. Sarge and his look-alike bull dog, Otto are the ones really running the place. Or is it Pvt. Beetle Bailey, who has perfected the fine arts of Sarge baiting, work dodging and bringing out the funny side of everything? I'm still not sure.

One thing I AM sure of is that it is best if you read this sitting down. If you try reading this standing up, you'll fall over when you laugh so hard.

Telepathy and the Etheric Vehicle
Published in Paperback by Lucis Publishing Company (June, 1971)
Author: Alice A. Bailey
Average review score:

Pack a dictionary and a spirit guide to help with this one
A great guide to understanding how people can interact with eachother on a different level of consciousness. This book reads backwards though, and can be very confusing to read at first. But by the time you reach the end, it's like you've reached the begining. This book actually saved my sanity, by helping me to understand the changes I am going through, if you have similar troubles, read this book! If you buy this book expecting to learn telepathy, your in for a shock. This book doesn't tell the reader (directly) how to gain this new "insight", but rather, why it is. Basically if you don't already 'get it' you won't 'get it'. The "Science of Impression" marches on

Telepathy and the Etheric Vehicle
An exhaustive view of telepathy through the study of the types of energy involved in such activity. As the reading progresses, one comes to realize that telepathic sensitivity is a normal unfoldement, which parallels spiritual development. Grow and know!

World War II: Wrecks of the Kwajalein and Truk Lagoons
Published in Hardcover by North Valley Diver Pubns (June, 1992)
Author: Dan E. Bailey
Average review score:

A "must have" resource for divers heading to Truk
Dan writes a heck of a book. Accurate to the details available, well researched and interesting to read. There are a few possible errors, such as the identification of the Sankisan Maru as the ex Red Hook, but overall the book is great. The next revision is due soon and the new one should be even better.

Excellent for wreck divers to learn history of truk dives
If you are interested in knowing the history of the wrecks you dive, this book is for you. It contains extremely detailed histories of the battles of Truk lagoon and each of the ships. It has maps and analyses that put most other guide books to shame -- if you want the detail it is here.
What makes the book good for divers, in addition to amature historians of WWII battles in the pacific, is that it is written by a diver. The author takes the time to bring each wreck's history into what you see as a diver checking out the wreck -- what to look for and what to watch out for.
If you are diving truk and you are interested in the wrecks, this is a must buy and read. If you are going to Truk and you are not interested in the wrecks, go to Palau.
